ANKENY, Iowa —
An Ankeny teenager was arrested after being accused of downloading child pornography from the dark web.
Saul Munoz Banderas, 18, was arrested Friday after months of investigation into child pornography allegations.
Detectives went to Centennial High School in May with a search warrant. They seized a laptop and cellphone from Banderas' backpack. The same day, detectives took two more laptops and another phone from his home.
"Investigating things like this is hard on detectives because they have to view the images to confirm what they see," said Lt. Brian Kroska, with the Ankeny Police Department. "A lot of the detectives have kids. As a parent myself, you just try to do the best you can to educate them on how to be safe on the internet."
In April, agents with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tipped off Ankeny police. Detectives connected the child pornography account to Banderas.
Banderas is being held in the Polk County Jail without bail.
