A man is dead by his own hand following an active shooting threat near a Chattanooga shopping center.

According to Chattanooga police, they and ATF responded to a potential active shooter threat at Hamilton Place Mall around 3 p.m. Monday. The incident took place in a CBL building behind the Cheesecake Factory, according to authorities.

Police say the shooter was inside a CBL building attempting to execute a plan that ultimately failed. Businesses in the area were locked down as law enforcement responded to the situation.

According to Chattanooga authorities, the shooter shot himself.

No other victims were shot, according to CPD. Police are asking everyone to stay away from the area, even as businesses have lifted their lockdown orders and have resumed normal operations.

Since it is still very early in the investigation, police still don’t know if the shooter, who remains unidentified, was able to fire any other shots before his death.
