Severe storms moved through East Tennessee Thursday evening, bringing strong winds and heavy rain that caused damage to multiple areas.
As severe weather swept through the region, the storms prompted multiple tornado warnings in East Tennessee and South East Kentucky.
While much of the damage across East Tennessee was caused by wind, rain and hail, a tornado was confirmed in the area of Deer Lodge in Morgan County. That storm caused downed trees and powerlines, and even ripped the roofs off of some buildings. Along with the damage, the storm also left two people dead and three others injured in Morgan County.
Multiple city, county and state agencies were deployed in Morgan County to search for victims, remove debris and help assess damage. Crews with the National Weather Service will be conducting a storm survey in Morgan County on Friday.
The Sevier County Emergency Management Agency reported ponding water and flooding in areas of Kodak near Douglas Dam Road east of Highway 66, and Snyder Road. Viewer submitted photos also show large hailstones.
In Grainger County, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down in the Thorn Hill area. Several trees were knocked down and some structure damage was reported.
Moving into the weekend, there is still a chance for some showers, although Storm Team 6 is not anticipating the threat of additional severe weather.
