One person on the ground was among those killed when a small medevac jet crashed in a Philadelphia neighborhood Friday night, injuring at least 19 others — while horrified residents watched the unfolding “carnage in their communities,” officials said Saturday.
The fiery wreck killed all six people on board the Learjet 55 that took off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport — including a young girl from Mexico who was receiving “life-saving treatment” in the US, her mother, a doctor, paramedic, pilot, and co-pilot.
A seventh victim was killed in a car on the street when the plane went down on Cottman Avenue near Roosevelt Mall, Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed Saturday.
She didn’t identify the victims, but officials confirmed all six plane passengers were Mexican citizens.
“This is not etched in stone. The investigation is ongoing,” said Parker, adding that local and federal emergency crews have been working around the clock.
Residents witnessed “carnage in their communities, saw fuselage, saw destruction and saw things that no one should ever have to experience in their neighborhoods,” Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said before praising the locals directly affected.
“It was neighbor helping neighbor. That’s the Philly way. That’s the Philly spirit.”
Most of the damage was within a four- to six-block radius, and five fires broke out after the crash, Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Jeffrey Thompson said.

All blazes have been extinguished, he added.
The number of deaths and injuries could be higher, and it’s unclear if pieces of the jet broke off and fell elsewhere before the crash, officials said.
City workers on Saturday were going “house-by-house, door-to-door” in the crash zone to see if any other properties and people were affected by the crash, said Philadelphia Managing Director Adam Thiel.
“It will likely be days or more until we know how many perished,” he added.
Parker cautioned residents to stay home “if they can” due to the ongoing investigation.
“We will find a cause for this tragedy,” she said.
The Learjet 55 crash comes just days after an Army Black Hawk helicopter’s midair collision with an American Airlines flight over Washington, DC, killing all 67 people on board both aircraft.
It was the deadliest aviation crash on US soil since Nov. 12, 2001, when 260 passengers died after an American Airlines jet plummeted into a New York City neighborhood just two months after the 9/11 terror attacks.
