Border Patrol agents shoot two alleged Tren de Aragua gang members who tried to run them over with car in Portland: DHS

Two people were shot in Portland, Oregon by Border Patrol agents on Thursday. The Department of Homeland Security has said that those that were shot are alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang who tried to run a car into the officials. 

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told The Post Millennial: “At 2:19 PST, US Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop in Portland, Oregon. The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland. The vehicle driver is believed to be a member of the vicious Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua. When agents identified themselves to the vehicle occupants, the driver weaponized his vehicle and attempted to run over the law enforcement agents.

"Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot. The driver drove off with the passenger, fleeing the scene. This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming," she added.

Portland Police Department said in a statement, "Officers confirmed that federal agents had been involved in a shooting. Portland Police were not involved in the incident."

Some initial reports indicated that the two people shot by ICE were a husband and wife who had been attempting to run over the federal agents over with a car in the city. Both were taken to a local hospital after the shooting took place. 

The shooting took place near East Burnside and 141st Avenue in Portland. Portland Police Chief Bob Day said in a statement, "We are still in the early stages of this incident. We understand the heightened emotion and tension many are feeling in the wake of the shooting in Minneapolis, but I am asking the community to remain calm as we work to learn more."

In a post from the FBI Portland account that was also deleted after release, the agency branch said, "FBI Portland is investigating an agent involved shooting that happened approximately 2:15pm near the 10000 block of Main St. in Portland involving Customs and Border Patrol Agents in which 2 individuals were wounded." It was not immediately clear why the post from the agency was deleted.

This follows a different shooting that took place in Minnesota on Wednesday, where a woman identified as Renee Good was seen on video running a car into an ICE agent. The agent then shot his firearm and killed Good.

Video of the Minnesota incident was seized by Democrats, who suggested that the shooting was not justified. The Trump administration earlier on Thursday held a White House press briefing, where Vice President JD Vance slammed left-wing media outlets for their coverage of the event.

"This was an attack on federal law enforcement. This was an attack on law and order. This was an attack on the American people. The way that the media by and large has reported this story has been an absolute disgrace, and it puts our law enforcement officers at risk every single day," Vance said in the briefing.
