Buffalo police respond to alleged active shooter report at Nichols School, police say no shooter

( ABC )

Buffalo police were called to Nichols School just after 8 a.m. Friday for reports of an active shooter.

Multiple units responded to the scene and no evidence of an active threat has been found as of shortly after 9 a.m. The high school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Police are completing a sweep of the building with K-9 officers.

7 News spoke to a staff member at the school around 9:15 a.m. who indicated that the school had moved to a shelter in place protocol as the investigation continued.

Shelter in place protocol typically calls for students and staffers to go to specific rooms, with doors to those rooms staying shut.

Nichols School is a private high school on Amherst Street and Colvin Avenue in Buffalo, across from Delaware Park. While many local public schools are on break this week, some schools continue class and activities. Nichols' winter semi-formal is scheduled for Friday night.
