The Cuban government said on Sunday that it is ready for any potential attack from the United States as the island starts recovering from another nationwide blackout amid a strict U.S. oil blockade.
Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio responded Sunday to President Donald Trump’s recent threats to take control of Cuba, saying the country has “historically been ready to mobilize as a nation for military aggression.”
He said Cuba doesn't see "why it would have to occur and we find no justification whatsoever."
"Our country has historically been ready to mobilize as a nation as a whole for military aggression," de Cossio said on NBC’s Meet the Press.
“We don’t believe it is something that is probable, but we would be naive if we do not prepare,” de Cossio added.
Trump has described Cuba's communist government as a threat to U.S. national security.
"I do believe I’ll have the honor of taking Cuba," Trump said recently.
