Seattle police took a suspect into custody after two detransitioners were violently assaulted in Seattle's Cal Anderson Park on Wednesday night by a group of masked Antifa-aligned agitators, after one of them was allegedly targeted for wearing a red "Make Common Sense Great Again" hat.

According to Brandi Kruse, host of the UnDivided podcast, detransition activist who goes by Apostate Ari on X, and attorney Hendrix, known online as "The P*ssed Off Lawyer," were attacked by "a group of mostly trans suspects." Kruse said police believe the red "Make Common Sense Great Again" hat worn by Ari, a piece of merchandise from her show that resembles a MAGA hat, was the apparent motive for the assault.

Hendrix described the attack in a statement posted to X, "We were mobbed and attacked by Trantifa last night in Seattle. I was maced by like 6 different trans identified males, beaten all over, kicked in the face multiple times, and was completely blinded by being maced so many times in a row."

Ari provided a lengthy account of the incident, which was captured on video, saying he and Hendrix were filming peacefully in the park before being attacked. "Last night, while peacefully recording video footage in a public space, we were subjected to a vicious, unprovoked physical assault by a group of masked Antifa agitators. The attack was swift and coordinated."

According to Ari, one attacker kicked Hendrix in the face while multiple individuals sprayed both victims with pepper spray, causing temporary blindness and respiratory distress. He also alleged that his hat was stolen, portions of his recording equipment were taken, Hendrix's phone was stolen, and he was thrown to the ground before multiple assailants continued spraying him at close range. "The assault left me in fear for my life; the cumulative force and tactics employed could easily have resulted in fatal injuries."

Ari stated that responding Seattle police officers warned him that individuals perceived as critics of transgender ideology are frequently targeted in the area surrounding Cal Anderson Park. "Law enforcement personnel who responded to the incident informed me that individuals perceived as critical of transgender ideology, often labeled 'transphobes' by such groups, are routinely targeted for severe violence in this area, which the attackers evidently consider their controlled territory."

He added that officers allegedly warned of hidden weapons caches in the park and advised that remaining in the area could lead to further violence. Cal Anderson Park, in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, has frequently been the site of demonstrations involving Antifa, LGBTQ activists, and political protesters. The park was previously the site of the deadly 2020 Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone. Seattle Police reportedly told Ari that several of the alleged attackers are homeless trans people who live in the park or the nearby area.

According to police, one video shows an unidentified suspect approaching the victims and pouring water on them. When one victim attempted to intervene, the suspect allegedly placed the victim in what officers described as being "close to a rear naked choke." While the victim's movement was restrained, another suspect allegedly sprayed the victim with pepper spray. Police also described a second video showing the victim thrown to the ground near the park's fountain.

According to the police report: "Suspect walks up to Victim and throws a kick toward his head while Victim was on the floor... Suspect then throws a second kick to Victim while on the ground which appears to connect." The report states the victim eventually got back to his feet and briefly continued struggling with the suspect before the two were separated.

Seattle police confirmed that one suspect was taken into custody in connection with the incident. Police said that the suspect admitted to police that he had smoked meth a few hours before the attack. Police ultimately declined to book him into Kings County Jail on assault. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives review additional video footage and seek to identify other individuals involved.
