House Democrats blocked a resolution Tuesday condemning the violence that has targeted dozens of pro-life pregnancy centers and churches since May.

Republicans on the U.S. House Rules Committee criticized Democrat leaders after the vote, saying they refused to even consider U.S. Rep. Mike Johnson’s House Resolution 1233.

Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, introduced the measure to urge wide-spread condemnation of the arsons, vandalisms and threats against pro-life and religious organizations since a leaked draft ruling in May showed the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. The resolution also urged President Joe Biden’s administration to crack down on the escalating violence.

LifeNews has recorded more than 50 reports of arson and/or vandalism since the Supreme Court overturned Roe on June 24 and more than 100 since a draft ruling was leaked in May.

“This has gotten out of hand,” Johnson said on the House floor. “Radical leftists were emboldened by the inaction of this body in the aftermath of the leaked opinion, and now they’ve targeted their violence against the very groups that care for women and their unborn children in their most vulnerable moments. It’s unconscionable.”

The Louisiana lawmaker criticized Democrat leaders for ignoring the threats and violence coming from radical abortion activists on their side of the abortion issue. He faulted House Democrat leaders for refusing to act even after the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill to increase security for the Supreme Court justices and their families, saying it was only after Justice Brett Kavanaugh was the target of an assassination attempt that House leaders took action.

Johnson said the resolution is “another opportunity to push back against the mob” as threats and violence continue. Reading from various news reports, he listed recent acts of arson and vandalism at churches and pregnancy centers in Oregon, Maryland, Texas, Colorado, Virginia, Wisconsin, Alabama, Washington state, Iowa, Washington, D.C. and Louisiana.

“This goes on and on,” Johnson said. “I’ve got pages and pages of these. It’s out of control.”

He continued: “America’s care pregnancy centers provide absolutely essential services in all 50 states. … they serve millions of women every year. They’re supported by over 10,000 medical professionals.

“When will this body stand up against the mob? When will we restore law and order?” he asked. “Our side is ready to act. We have an obligation and responsibility to do it.”

The crime wave has many pro-life organizations increasing security and Republican lawmakers demanding action from the Biden administration to crack down on the growing domestic terrorism. The FBI announced an investigation into the pro-abortion violence in June, but many believe the Biden administration and Democrat leaders are not doing enough to stop the violence.

After the vote Tuesday, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America accused Democrat leaders of encouraging more violence against pregnancy centers and churches.

“By remaining silent on these attacks, Democrats are pouring fuel on the fire and encouraging more threats and violence,” the pro-life group wrote on Twitter, sharing photos of several recent vandalisms.

In June, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a report warning of continued “domestic violence” directed at churches, faith-based pro-life organizations, judges and lawmakers in response to the abortion ruling.
