Kamala Harris 'thinking about' running for president again in 2028

Kamala Harris has said that she is "thinking about" running for president again in 2028 after a failed run against President Donald Trump in 2024. She made the comments while speaking to Al Sharpton at the National Action Network convention on Friday.

"Listen, I might, I might. I’m thinking about it. I’ll keep you posted,” she said as she walked off stage. The comment concluded her appearance, which lasted approximately 40 minutes. Although Harris has mulled the idea before, the comment makes the bid more of a possibility. The crowd was full of black lawmakers, power brokers, and voters, according to Politico.

The comment may be seen as the first major move for a presidential bid in the election. “I know what the job is and what it requires,” she told Sharpton. There were other possible 2028 contenders who also took to the stage and chatted with Sharpton.

Other Democrats who could run in 2028 who also spoke included Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and Rep. Ro Khanna of California. At one point, the ballroom started chanting to Harris, "Run again! Run again!"

According to the outlet, Harris got the most enthusiasm out of all the Democrats who were on stage. During her speech, she attacked Trump on various issues, a strategy that California Governor Gavin Newsom has also appeared to be doing as a late for his potential presidential aspirations.

Harris also said that Democrats should not expect support from black and Hispanic communities just because they have long supported Democrats, pointing to the large portion of voters of color Trump was able to win over in 2024.

“I think we need to be transactional voters,” she added. “Here’s what I’m suggesting in addition: get yours. Vote and say, ‘I’m voting because I expect something out of this’…. I’m saying it’s okay to also give people permission to be transactional, and to say, if you will get my vote, this is what I expect. I expect to get something out of this.”

Polls have shown that Democrats are struggling to have a central leader after the 2024 election, which may result in a crowded Democratic primary for the presidency in 2028.
