Kentucky gov declares state of emergency amid significant flooding

( Fox17 )

Parts of Kentucky were nearly underwater Wednesday morning following overnight storms.

Videos and photos sent to the FOX 17 newsroom show significant flooding in Mayfield, Kentucky. Most of Middle Tennessee and Kentucky have been under a Flood Watch since Tuesday.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear posted to social media Wednesday morning to let residents know the state is working to assess the damage. He later declared a state of emergency, and asked for "prayers" for Mayfield — which is still recovering from deadly tornadoes in 2021.

"Please pray for Mayfield and areas of Western Kentucky impacted by significant flooding from last night's storms," Beshear wrote. "We're working to assess the damage and respond."

"Just like every challenge we've faced, we will be there for all those affected. We will get through this together.”

Graves County Emergency Management has set up a shelter at His House Ministries lcoated at 1250 KY-303, Mayfield, KY 42066.
