Lexington police say one person is in custody after an infant was found dead inside a trash can.
29-year-old Luz Jessica Gonzalez-Estrella, the infant’s mother, is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
Police say they were called to a hospital Wednesday after Gonzalez-Estrella showed up with postpartum complications. Officers say while there, she tried to hide she had given birth from staff and friends.
Her arrest citation says they later found an infant dead in a trash can outside a home on Darley Drive.
The infant’s cause of death has not been released.
Gonzales-Estrella is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning.
