Mamdani admin doxxes wealthy New Yorkers who could be subject to second home tax

Socialist New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has published all the names of those who could be getting hit with his new "pied-a-terre" or second home tax, along with their addresses on a searchable database, effectively doxxing the names and addresses of wealthy New Yorkers in a long list.

The comprehensive list was uploaded by the Department of Finance, and claimed to cover unoccupied, non-primary residences in the five boroughs of New York City that are over $1 million. The names and addresses of each property owner were included in the list. The Department of Finance said the "roll includes, but is not limited to, those properties that may be subject to the surcharge." An update to the website includes a form for those listed to contest the tax.

The move from the Mamdani administration to effectively dox the wealthy New Yorkers followed a post from the mayor who warned wealthy homeowners that they would pay their "fair share" of taxes.

"If you have a second home in New York City worth more than $5M, check your mailbox when you’re back in the five boroughs — because you've got mail. Today, we sent notification letters to property owners, letting them know that our new pied-à-terre tax is coming soon. The best city in the world deserves the best parks, libraries, and schools in the world. That's only possible when we all pay our fair share," Mamdani said.

Author Alex Berenson said his elderly mother who has lived in the same townhome for 30 years, which his her only residence, was listed. 

The move from Mamdani was the result of the socialist pressuring Kathy Hochul into greenlighting more taxes on the wealthy with the threat he would be forced to raise property taxes on everyday New Yorkers if the governor did not increase income tax on the richest people and corporations. With Hochul’s help, the “pie-a-terre" tax will now tax wealthy New Yorkers who have a second home in the Big Apple.
