Man arrested for violently assaulting Trump supporter at New York grocery store: police

A man has been arrested for allegedly beating up a Trump supporter for "wearing a Trump 2024 hat," police have reported. The victim was beaten in a New York grocery store on Friday, according to authorities.

According to police, Robert Yott, 60, allegedly beat up the Trump supporter after he became aggressive because the victim was wearing a "Trump 2024" hat.

“On [November 1], around 10:00 a.m., the Village of Bath Police Department was dispatched to a fight at the Tops Friendly Markets, located at 309 West Morris Street,” a police press release from the Village of Bath Police Department said. "It was determined that Robert Yott, age 60, of Bath, initiated a confrontation with a stranger inside Tops, after becoming aggressive over the fact that the stranger was wearing a Trump 2024 hat."

“Mr. Yott punched the victim in the mouth and head several times, causing the victim’s teeth to be broken and mouth bloody,” the press release added. “Mr. Yott was not known to the victim and this appears to be a random act of violence.”

Yott was arrested following the incident and was charged with one count of assault as well as fourth degree criminal mischief. "Mr. Yott was processed and transported to Steuben County Jail where he is currently awaiting CAP arraignment," the press release added.

According to WETM, Yott is being held at Steuben County Jail without bail. Bath, New York is in the Finger Lakes region of the state, which is considered to be a much more conservative location in New York, which is usually known as a deep blue stronghold.
