Man fatally shot outside Portland ICE facility, suspect remains at large

A man was shot and killed outside the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday morning. The incident is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

The area surrounding the ICE facility is shut down while police investigate. The victim died on scene, and the suspect remains at large, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

The killing occurred at approximately 4:10 am. PPB said in a press release: "A sergeant assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's Central Precinct was on routine patrol in the South Waterfront when he spotted a vehicle that had crashed into a building in the 4000 block os South Macadam Avenue. Simultaneously, community members were calling 911 to report shots fired in the area."

"Suspecting the two incidents were related, the sergeant and responding officers approached the vehicle and found the adult male driver unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers pulled the individual out of the vehicle and performed lifesaving measures. Unfortunately, the adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene," said PPB.

Authorities said the shooting appears to have occurred at the traffic light at South Bancroft Street and South Macadam Avenue, which is located near the front of the ICE facility at the top of a hill. The victim's vehicle rolled down the hill and crashed into a building. The suspect fled in a vehicle, according to police.

The area is the site of notorious ongoing anti-ICE demonstrations, where protesters who often arrive with riot gear remain onsite for most hours of the day, including overnight. Portland Police has minimal presence in the area of the federal facility due to sanctuary laws for illegal immigrants. Details are limited as police further investigate.

A Portland Police officer at the scene told The Post Millennial that ICE was not involved in the shooting.
