A 74-year-old man has been charged with a felony after he allegedly painted a swastika on a Trump campaign sign on another person's property in Massachusetts.
Frederick Laidlaw from Cohasset has been accused of going on the private property of another person on Route 3A earlier this week and painting a swastika on a campaign sign supportive of GOP nominee Donald Trump, according to the Cohasset Police Department as reported by WCVB.
Footage of the swastika showed black paint on the white sign, covering up some of the lettering of "Trump" on the sign. Laidlaw, who is a supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris in the election, has been charged with defacement of property. He was also ordered to stay away from the area of the sign as well as the family that set it up.
Laidlaw told reporters about the motive of putting the Nazi symbol on the sign, "I've been dedicating my life to peace, nonviolence and the American way. All I've been hearing and I do believe it, on [Trump's] actions, what he says and the people he deals with, that they are wannabe fascists."
Kevin O'Donnell is the resident who put up the sign. He told reporters, "Of all the things to put on a sign, the symbol of hate, of the Nazis, the swastika, is so inappropriate at any time in America. Given the history of that symbol, should never be used."
O'Donnell said that he is also the brother of MSNBC's more left-wing political commentator, Lawrence O'Donnell. Kevin referred to his brother as "wonderful, generous, [and] fantastic."
"We get along great," he added. "We have absolutely no political fights in our family." Laidlaw, when he was asked if he regretted painting the Nazi symbol on the Trump sign said that he did and said that he wouldn't be doing it again.
