Mom plows minivan into crowd at Harrisburg, PA festival, 6-year-old boy in critical condition

A child and two others were injured on Monday evening when a woman drove a minivan into a crowd in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania during a festival. The celebration had gone on for three days and was coming to an end at 6 pm when the incident occurred.

Police said that three people, a child and two adults, were injured. A 6-year-old boy was in critical condition. 37-year-old Elizabeth Ann Bohrer was the woman who allegedly drove the vehicle into the crowd after going around a barricade and parked cars. She has been charged with aggravated assault by vehicle, per Local 21 and was seen wearing a "mom" shirt. Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo said that Bohrer has been hospitalized and is awaiting a preliminary arraignment hearing.

The two adults injured in the ramming were a man working for the city's traffic engineering department and a woman who had been using a wheelchair. Both adults, unlike the child, are in stable condition.

“This car came flying down through here fast,” a vendor at the festival said of the ramming. “Not yelling or anything, but just flying down through this.” Police were helping to clear the area as the festival came to a close when the car came through.

Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) said on X, "Dina and I are praying for those injured during Harrisburg’s Kipona Festival. We’re extremely grateful for our first responders and law enforcement officers who responded efficiently to this tragic situation."

The nearby Anna Rose Bakery & Coffee Shop posted on Facebook about the tragedy, writing, "We will be closed tomorrow on Tuesday, September 2nd."

"Members of our staff directly witnessed the tragic accident that happened today at Kipona and need time to process everything. We apologize and appreciate your understanding," the post added.

The Kipona festival is held each year over Labor Day weekend, and started in 1916 in the Pennsylvania town to recognize the completion of the River Steps.
