Mom who plowed truck onto youth soccer field, killing 2 in Kansas, released without charges or explanation

A 34-year-old mother has been released without any charges after being held over the weekend. She allegedly drove her Chevrolet pickup truck onto a soccer field at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita Kansas, killing an adult and a child and injuring many others on Saturday.
The unidentified woman, who had two children in the back seat of the truck at the time, allegedly killed Adrian Cole, 6, and Nicholas Schafer, 35, unrelated, both from McPherson, Kansas, according to the New York Post. Her truck had been in a parking space near the soccer fields before it went onto the field. One of the children in the car was playing at a different field that day. The other approximately 10 victims ranged from 5 to 68 years of age.
It is unclear what caused the suspect to drive onto the soccer field. Toxicology testing is ongoing along with a mechanical investigation of the vehicle. The Wichita police department announced, “No charges have been filed at this time, and investigators continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.”
The suspect apparently said, “Oh my God, Oh my God, what have I done?,” as she was pulled out of the truck by other parents, a reporter stated at a press conference on Saturday.
In the immediate aftermath, many civilians at the game rendered “life-saving assistance” to those wounded until the arrival of first responders, according to Wichita police chief Joe Sullivan.
Sullivan said, “Our hearts are with the families of Adrian and Nicholas as they face an unimaginable loss. What should have been a day of children playing soccer and families spending time together ended in tragedy,” adding, “Our officers and investigators will continue working to understand exactly what happened.”
