A Nashville mother is facing charges after allegedly videoing herself kicking her 7-month-old child and posting it online, according to an arrest report.

According to the report, on Dec. 8, officers were dispatched to an apartment on Rio Vista Drive to reports of child abuse.

Police said that it was reported that 23-year-old Ja’Tina Ballard was kicking her 7-month-old child in the head and that the child had been crying and screaming for 30 minutes. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Ballard who was holding her child who was crying.

According to the report, while speaking with Ballard, the 911 caller approached officers in the parking lot and provided video of the alleged incident. Police said the video footage is in a first-person view and appeared to be recorded by Ballard and then posted online.

The footage shows the child sitting on the ground and then Ballard kicks the child causing it to fall backward and hit the back of her head on the hardwood floor, according to the report. Police said the child went back upright and then was kicked again, multiple times before the video ended.

According to the report, officers were able to identify the person in the video as Ballard due to having the same clothing on. The child didn’t have visible injuries but was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Ballard was arrested and faces a charge of child abuse on a child eight years old or less. She’s slated to appear in court on Dec. 11.
