NHL team Dallas Stars won't have Pride Night for first time in 5 years

The NHL Dallas Stars will not have a Pride Night for the first time in at least five years and will instead host a game dubbed the "Hocky Unites Us: Women in Sports Night" on March 23 when the team plays the Carolina Hurricanes.  

The move was made known when the team announced its 2026- 2027 season schedule on Friday, with the usual "Pride Night" not present. According to the Dallas News, for the last five seasons, the NHL team has had a Pride Night in February or March. The game night where the pride event would be was instead dubbed “Hockey Unites Us: Women in Sports Night” on March 23. 

“The new Hockey Unites Night allows our organization to use our platform to celebrate and support a different underrepresented community each season,” Stars spokesperson Joe Calvillo said. The team did not comment further on why they declined to have a Pride Night in addition to the Women in Sports Night.  

The league allows for teams to decide what time of themed games to host. The Stars will have other game nights to honor black history, Hockey Fights Cancer, Noche Mexicana, first responders, and others. However, they are one of the only NHL teams that will not have a Pride Night this upcoming season. Last season, the only three NHL teams to not have a Pride Night were the Utah Mammoth, Los Angeles Kings, and Carolina Hurricanes.  

The Kings, in contrast to the Stars, will be bringing back Pride Night this upcoming season.
