OPINION: BIBI’S SPEECH AT THE UN

As I watched Bibi Netanyahu’s emotional speech at the United Nations, I saw an ancient picture rise before my eyes — David, still a young man, running to the battlefield to find his brothers before the fight with the Philistines. That same urgency, that same fire, that same covenant courage seemed to echo through Bibi’s words.
He spoke of the 1967 war, when he was a high school student in Pennsylvania. The moment Israel was about to be attacked, he flew home immediately — not to hide, but to stand with his people. Just as David did thousands of years earlier, Bibi went searching for his brother on the battlefield. And just like David’s brother, Jonathan Netanyahu was stunned to see him.
Bibi asked his brother what would happen. Jonathan answered with a line that became the hinge of the entire speech:
“We are going to win. We have no other choice.”
That line brought me to tears — not because of its military bravado, but because of its biblical truth. Israel has always had “no other choice” except to win, because God has been fighting Israel’s battles all along.
Then something struck me with a force that sent chills down my spine.
David’s closest friend — the one Scripture calls his brother — was named Jonathan.
And here stands Benjamin Netanyahu, shaped by the courage of his own brother Jonathan, whose life and death mirror the biblical Jonathan in ways that are impossible to ignore.
The parallels only deepen.
Jonathan Netanyahu led the heroic mission to rescue 103 Jewish hostages from Palestinian captors. He was the only soldier killed in the operation.
David’s Jonathan also died in battle — struck down by the enemy.
Two Jonathans.
Two warriors.
Two brothers whose courage shaped the leaders beside them.
Two stories separated by millennia, yet carrying the same prophetic resonance.
I saw David in this historical and biblical parallel because:
a young man ran to the battlefield
he sought his brother
he asked what was happening
he was told the situation was dire
he stood with his people
he later became a leader
his courage was shaped by a Jonathan
Later in the speech, Bibi recounted the horrors of the October 7 attack — the greatest atrocity against the Jewish people since the Holocaust. He said that in Israel’s darkest days, their enemies expected them to collapse.
Then he lifted his voice and declared:
“We didn’t collapse. We rose — and we fought like Lions!”
He said it with full bravado, almost preaching it. But what I felt was something deeper than human strength. I didn’t hear the roar of an army. I heard the roar of the Lion of Judah — the One who has fought for Israel since the beginning. That's why I capitalized the word "Lion" so you will see it was He, God, who fought that battle.
That moment brought me to my knees.
Yes, God is fighting this war.
Yes, God has fought every war for Israel.
Yes, Israel will win — because there is no other way when God Himself is fighting for His covenant people.
