Eric Lewis, a Philadelphia city employee, has been charged for the deadly shooting of Shane Seiber. Seiber and his partner were knocking on the door of a Philly home over the weekend. According to law enforcement sources that spoke to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Lewis walked up from behind them demanding to know why they were on his porch.

However, Lewis started to act aggressively, according to the report. The officers got into a struggle with Lewis and when they tried to check if he was armed, that is when he reportedly shot them. He continued to fire the gun as they lay on the ground wounded. Seiber was shot three times and died from the gunshots. The other officer was found unconscious but survived.

Lewis was then arrested after an hour-long stand-off with law enforcement. He was then transported to the hospital, where the police report said, "He stated if the cops were black he would not have shot them."

The police report added that when Lewis was getting treated in the emergency room, he went off on a tirade about the white police officers and "he was making racist remarks to the white police officers and saying that he makes more money than them."

He also claimed in the emergency room that if he had been a white guy, that the police would not have pointed their guns at him. The police report recounted Lewis saying, "I did what I did because they did what they did," and noted, "He was saying because they were white they automatically grabbed me."

"[Lewis] looked at police officer Olds, a black female, and stated if it was you that responded we would have just had a conversation" the report noted.

Seiber, the police officer that was killed in the shooting, leaves behind his wife, a 7-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter. Commissioner Kevin Bethel said that his family was able to be by his side before Seiber passed. He was an Air Force veteran.

"This will be a period of mourning for us, but we will stand tall as a department and get through this together," Bethal said.
