Texas mom let boyfriend beat her toddler nearly to death, didn't want him arrested: police

A Texas mother has been arrested after her two-year-old daughter was repeatedly abused by her boyfriend, while the mother failed to seek medical attention because she did not want him to go to jail.

28-year-old Jazmin Cisneros and her 29-year-old boyfriend, Gerardo Gonzalez, were reportedly at a gas station north of Houston on Thursday seeking help for the severely injured toddler. Witnesses called 911, leading police to arrive and perform life-saving measures on the unresponsive child.

The toddler was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries before being transferred to another hospital for surgery. The 2-year-old is on life support as of Thursday, according to Click2Houston.

A report by the Daily Mail noted that Gonzales had admitted to repeatedly assaulting the child. Authorities allege he struck her in the head multiple times, punched her in the chest, lower back and buttocks, and stomped on her pelvis. The toddler suffered a fractured skull, a broken pelvis, and a lacerated liver. A court filing stated that the child “is not expected to survive.”

Gonzales was arrested and charged with causing serious bodily injury to a child.

During the investigation, law enforcement alleged that Cisneros knew the child had been injured but failed to obtain medical treatment for her. Prosecutors said that Cisneros did not report the abuse because she did not want Gonzalez to go to jail. She was arrested and charged with the same felony offense as Gonzalez.

“Our thoughts are with this young toddler as she continues to fight for her life,” said the Harris County sheriff. “Cases involving children are among the most heartbreaking first responders encounter, and we remain committed to seeking justice on her behalf.”
