Law enforcement in Miami is currently for a suspect accused of shooting three women outside an apartment complex after a contentious discussion regarding the 2024 presidential election. The incident occured on Nov. 6 in the Wynwood neighborhood, which is roughly two miles north of downtown Miami, at around 12:30 am Wednesday.
Police say the three victims who were injured are in their 20s and 30s. One of the victims was transported to the hospital in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the stomach, while the other two victims were listed in stable conditions, Fox 19 reported.
Michael Vega, a spokesperson for the Miami Dade police department, told reporters during a Wednesday press brief: "A group was drinking and talking about politics when the shooting suspect went to a vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and began shooting," USA Today reported.
Police did not release a suspect description, and the suspect has not yet been apprehended as of Friday.
"This is something that is of concern to us," Vega said. "There is no place for violence, especially over a difference of opinion in politics. This is not acceptable. We have to handle our differences and respect each other's beliefs. We need to either reach an agreement or simply avoid such topics."
Suly Ashe, a neighbor who heard the gunfire, told Fox 19: "I heard somebody screaming and didn't want to open the door and put myself at risk. It sounded like four shots. It is horrible."
"Whoever is president now is president for all of us, whether we are Democrat or Republican," she continued. "It doesn't matter. It's our country. It's very sad that this happened."
