Trans activists shoot themselves up with hormones outside NYU Langone to protest hospital's end of child sex change services
During a Tuesday protest outside a New York City hospital, trans activists injected themselves with hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The demonstration was in response to NYU Langone Health's decision to discontinue providing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to anyone under the age of 19 due to funding threats from the Trump administration.
Video footage taken by independent journalist Oliya Scootercaster shows trans demonstrators shoving needles into their bodies one-by-one. "We're taking our HRT here at the doors of the people who have given up to demystify, normalize, and celebrate our trans bodies in the face of NYU's cowardice," a protester said, rallying up the crowd.
The demonstration occurred just days after NYU Langone, located in Manhattan, agreed to stop providing sex change treatments to adolescents and pay the US Department of Justice (DOJ) a settlement of $8.5 million, according to the DOJ.
During the demonstration, adults administered their own medication, focusing on themselves rather than children receiving treatment at the hospital. Although a number of protesters held signs and discussed the impact of the hospital's policy on so-called trans youth.
In January 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at protecting children from surgical harm and mutilation. He ordered the Department of Justice to pull federal funding from all hospitals that offer sex change surgeries for minors.
NYU Langone stated that the settlement safeguards the confidentiality of patient information and prevents protracted litigation, thereby safeguarding patients, families, and healthcare providers. The hospital denied any malfeasance or liability and stated that it did not enter the agreement due to misconduct, as reported by the IBT.
The agreement was reached following months of federal scrutiny. In May, NYU Langone received a grand jury subpoena that sought information regarding patients under the age of 18 who had received sex change treatments between 2020 and 2026. A preliminary injunction was issued by a federal court to prevent the disclosure of sensitive or identifying health information.
