The Vatican announced Monday that Pope Francis requires a change in his hospital treatment because he is suffering from a “polymicrobial infection” of his respiratory tract.

Test indicate the pontiff has a “complex clinical" condition, the Vatican added.

“All the tests carried out to date are indicative of a complex clinical picture that will require adequate hospitalization," the Vatican said.

On Friday, Francis was hospitalized due to an infection and a mild fever.

Francis has had his share of health problems since having one of his lungs removed as a young man and often uses a walker and a wheel chair.

He was also hospitalized in 2023 after having chest pain and a fever.
