Woman arrested after threatening to blow up Lipscomb University over Charlie Kirk memorial

A 25-year-old woman was arrested last week after allegedly threatening to blow up Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, over a memorial being held in honor of murdered Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Police said Karissa Hamlet posted on Facebook, “I’ll blow Lipscomb tf up rn,” prompting immediate action from Lipscomb University and Lipscomb Academy’s campus security. The university notified authorities, and Hamlet was soon taken into custody.

Hamlet is not a student at Lipscomb, but according to investigators, she made the threat after seeing a news story about a student-led memorial being held on campus to honor Kirk following his assassination. Police said Hamlet opposed the memorial and posted the threat in response.

In a statement released on October 29, Lipscomb Academy said, “We take any and all threats very seriously. The safety and security of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. We are grateful for the swift and effective response of Lipscomb Security and the Metro Nashville Police Department in addressing the situation. Our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff remains steadfast.”

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Hamlet has been charged with making a threat of mass violence and filing a false report. She is being held on a $12,000 bond.

“Threats against schools, special events and businesses are taken very seriously by the MNPD. Those responsible, once identified, will be prosecuted,” the department said.
