Woman in Odessa indicted for capital murder of newborn found in toilet

Yanira Prado, a woman arrested after her newborn was found dead in a toilet in October 2024, has been indicted in late January for her capital murder charge, according to the Ector County Portal.


An arrest affidavit obtained by NewsWest 9 in December of 2024 states on Oct. 9, at approximately 5:46 p.m., officers with the Odessa Police Department (OPD) were called to a residence on West 6th St. because of a "pregnancy miscarriage."


When officers arrived, a bathroom contained a large amount of blood on the floor. Then, officers found a dead baby in the toilet. OPD also saw "bloody clothes that appeared to be used to wipe up some of the blood."


Prado was then arrested and booked on a combined $1,015,000 bond for capital murder of a child under 10 years old and tampering with evidence.
