Three people, including a child, were killed Wednesday morning at an in-home daycare in Hopkins, Minnesota, with police describing the incident as a domestic situation. Police Chief Brent Johnson said the two adults and child were members of the same family. Investigators believe the adults who were killed owned and operated the daycare from their home.

CBS reports that the victims were stabbed to death.

The suspected attacker, a man, was also among those killed, Johnson told reporters. Police said the killings occurred at about 9 a.m. and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Six other children who were at the daycare during the incident were safely reunited with their parents, police said, reports the New York Times.

Investigators are looking into what led to the killings. Johnson described the incident as a domestic matter and said authorities do not believe there is a continuing danger to residents: “This is a horrific, tragic situation for any community, especially here in Hopkins, where we don’t see this type of crime."

"I know that our hearts and our prayers are with the people of Hopkins and any families that have been impacted," Mayor Jacob Frey said. "I have already touched base directly with Mayor Hanlon, offered any assistance that we possibly can provide."
