7-year-old girl killed by stranger in random Chicago stabbing in broad daylight

The latest tragedy in crime-plagued Chicago involved a 7-year-old girl who was randomly stabbed to death by a stranger while walking in broad daylight on a neighborhood sidewalk.
The girl, identified as Edimari Hernandez Chacon, was walking hand in hand with a woman in Chatham, a middle-class, historically black neighborhood in the city’s South Side.
She was stabbed multiple times in the back with a sharp object after being approached by another woman just before noon on Saturday.
Bystanders then chased down the culprit and detained her until police arrived, WDBJ reported. Edmiari was pronounced dead at the hospital.
William Smith, a barber who witnessed the attack just outside his shop on South Cottage Grove Avenue, said the scene after the attack was chaotic as witnesses scrambled to subdue the attacker.
“There was disbelief, screaming ‘My baby, my baby,’” Smith told NBC 5 in Chicago.
“It’s terrible. Our babies are losing their lives younger and younger to senseless violence every day,” bystander Stephanie Johnigan told the station.
Far-left Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has been known to advocate for pro-crime policies, such as defunding police and encouraging officials instead to better understand the roots of the crime epidemic.
Following President Donald Trump’s use of the National Guard to help clean up Washington, DC, black residents in Chicago went viral in videos begging the Republican leader to intervene in the Windy City as well.
Johnson previously admitted that federal law enforcement’s presence had led to a substantial reduction in some violent crime.
“Yes, we saw a 30 percent reduction in homicides, shooting, shooting victims, all down,” he told MSNOW in February.
