God with us brings HOPE

By: Linda Kirby/WGON

Biblical hope is based on God's unchanging character and promises. Hope is something Satan wants to steal from us. With hope gone -- despair, hopelessness, and fear step in. When our trials get so dire, we may think there is no hope to get through it. If you recall, the disciples in the boat were in an awful storm and they thought there was no hope, that they would sink for sure. Then Jesus appeared before them and calmed the storm. Our hope is in Him. We know He will calm what ever storm is over us. We see a lot of people today fearful and in great despair. People can live without food, water, and shelter -- but not hope. Those who have no hope can even commit suicide. This is because they don’t have Jesus in their hearts. Keeping our eyes on Jesus and being on guard against Satan attempting to steal our hope is the difference between them and us. Sure, it’s hard to keep from being discouraged, but it doesn’t make us less of a Christ follower! Job, Enoch, King David, Jeremiah, and many others in scripture got discouraged. They all went to God for strength. When we get discouraged, we also need to go to Jesus for strength! Jesus will keep us strong, hold us up when we get weak, and encourage us through His Word when we are down. The world doesn’t have this. That’s why they go crazy with panic. That’s why they end their lives. That’s why they lash out at everyone. Isn’t it awesome that Jesus is our Blessed Hope? (Titus 2)

David’s prayer in Psalm 18:1-2: “I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” NKJV
