Sometimes watching world leaders make decisions feels like watching a movie where you already know the ending — because you read the Book — and everyone else in the theater hasn’t. I say out loud, “I know what’s going to happen because I read the Book,” and the crowd keeps yelling at me to hush because they don’t know the ending. There’s a special kind of frustration that comes from seeing the plot twists coming while the people in charge act like they’ve never heard of the Author or ever read the script. Sometimes I want to shake the people on the screen to knock some sense into them, but the crowd would revolt on me for interrupting their movie — a movie they don’t even understand.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” — Hosea 4:6
Ruling would have much more success if leaders simply opened that “how‑to book” called the Bible. It tells them where the pitfalls are, who the enemy is, and how to defeat him.
Just ask Jonathan. When Israel was outnumbered, God led him up a specific cliff at Michmash — a route the Philistines never expected. That surprise attack turned the entire battle (1 Samuel 14:1–14).
And history repeated itself. During World War I, British General Edmund Allenby recognized the same terrain from Scripture. He sent a small force up Jonathan’s hidden pass. The Ottomans panicked and fled. The British won because one man read the Book.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105
But leaders today prefer their own wisdom. Kings of old did the same thing — ignoring the prophets God sent them. Some things never change.
(Ahab and Micaiah — 1 Kings 22)
King Solomon famously said, “That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done,
And there is nothing new under the sun.” — Ecclesiastes 1:9
And because leaders insist on making their own decisions — right or wrong — the people either suffer or prosper.
“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” — Proverbs 29:2
Look at your nation with honest eyes and tell me you don’t see decay, corruption, wickedness, graft, and every kind of evil out there.
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” — Isaiah 5:20
That means every leader is reading another book.
If leaders would give their hearts to God and follow His commands, their reigns would be exceptional — because God Himself would be leading them.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:6
But we’re the same way in our own lives. We want to do our own thing. We don’t look in the Book or go to God in prayer, and then we cry, “Why is my life such a mess?” The reason is simple: you didn’t read the Book. You’re like the audience in that movie clueless about how to navigate life and trials.
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”James 1:22
“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” — Proverbs 14:12
Isaiah chapter 1 shows what happens to a nation that rejects God. The same thing happens to the individual. Those who turn their back on God and falls into Satan’s trap of evil, will be in danger of the judgment. This applies to nations and people.
Just imagine how great this world would be if our leaders and our society followed God’s commands. But that day will come. You can count on it — because I read the end of the Book.
Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“When I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.” — Jeremiah 23:5
