ARE YOU DOING IT YOUR WAY
By: Linda Kirby/WGON

When you do something good for someone, it glorifies God -- it’s a good work that will earn you a crown or reward in heaven. “All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord examines their motives" (Proverbs 16:2). But if you do it in your flesh, then it is a work that is worthless -- your reward (the accolades you enjoy) has been received in full here on earth. The reward you receive here lasts only for a short time; while the reward you receive in heaven lasts for eternity (Matthew 6:4). When we are born again in Christ, we want to bless others to show the world that Jesus loves them. Good works reflect Jesus but works that are not initiated by the Lord reflects someone other than Him. And we shouldn't just sit around hoping that a “work” will fall into our lap. We must search out ways to bless folks. Pray and ask God to guide you, and when you see someone who needs help, God has probably put them there so that you can help them. "Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to what he has done" (Revelation 22:12). So, when you are doing good works, don’t do it your way, do it Jesus’ way … with love and humility.
