CHANGE SOMEONE’S DAY
By: Linda Kirby/WGON

Hebrews 3:13 tells us, “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” First Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” Throughout the Bible we see verses that are meant to comfort and edify us and there are instructions to comfort and exhort one another. Why is encouragement emphasized in the Bible? Jesus warned the disciples that there would be tribulations, but He calmed any fear by proclaiming that He had overcome the world (John 16:33b). We still face problems today and the body of Christ should continue as Jesus did, by lifting up others so they can make it through their hard times. We know how happy it makes us when someone takes the time to speak with us in a cheerful, loving manner. They bring a big smile that is like sunshine on an overcast day -- the clouds part and the light shines forth. It is the same when someone comforts us. Our difficulties seem smaller and we can smile once again. As the body of Christ, we can change someone’s day with words of encouragement or just a genuine greeting. Make them smile! That’s what Jesus would do.
