CHRISTIAN BEAUTY

"[A]ll of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for 'God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble'" (I Peter 5:5). As humans, we like to look our best. Many women like to make sure their hair and makeup look good. They also have on their jewelry to accentuate their appearance; and to top off their presentation, they have on their favorite perfume. Many men like to present themselves well, also, but not as many men as women. Seems this is a vanity issue and it’s one many people have. What we are seeing, in this presentation to the world, is prideful vanity. We should be presenting ourselves as followers of Christ. The Scripture says we are to clothe ourselves in humility and that God is opposed to pride. We cannot be humble when we go to the extreme in our way of dressing. There’s nothing wrong with a minor application of makeup and jewelry, but if you do desire to wear them, you must examine yourself. Are you wearing it to look presentable, or, are you wearing it to tempt others? We need to realize that God made us beautiful. Let your Christian beauty shine through. Let the light inside you shine through. Let the love of God be your make up, literally. Let the light of the Lord shine, rather than the jewelry on you. Let the clothes you wear that gets people’s attention be your Christian walk. This is what makes a person beautiful.
1 Peter 3:3-4--3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
