Inspirational: RISING FROM THE STONE

On Easter morning, while watching the reporting of the rescue of an airman trapped high in the mountains in Iran after being shot down, something struck me with unexpected force. He had been wedged deep in a crevice of stone, hidden away, waiting for help to reach him. And when the rescuers finally arrived, he rose up out of that rocky place into safety and life.

And in that moment, my heart whispered:

“This is Easter.” Jesus, too, was enclosed in stone — laid in a tomb carved from rock. He, too, was hidden from sight.

He, too, waited for the moment appointed by God.

And then…

He arose.

The stone could not hold Him.

Death could not keep Him.

Light broke through the darkness, and the Savior stepped out into life everlasting.

Watching that rescue reporting today, I couldn’t help but see the likeness:

• A man lifted out of stone because help arrived.

• Humanity lifted out of death because Jesus arose from stone.

It was as if the Lord whispered,

“Don’t forget what My Son did. Don’t forget the stone that rolled away.”

The news and all the experts proclaimed this was the greatest rescue of all time. But, I tell you that was not the greatest rescue of all time. When Jesus rose from that tomb of stone, He rescued the world from eternal death, now, THAT was the greatest rescue of all time.

He arose… and because He lives, we will live eternally too.
