RUINED LIVES

By: Linda Kirby/WGON

Psalm 70 is a short five verse chapter of David praying for help from God. He’s in a panic. He’s begging God to come to his rescue quickly. Here we see David being betrayed by his countrymen, his friends, and even his son. His heart is torn. We, too, have that same betrayal in our lives. “When others disappoint and threaten us, we feel empty as though a vital part of ourselves has been stolen. When others break the trust we have placed in them, they break our spirits as well. At those empty, broken moments we must join the psalmist in begging God to rush to our aid. He alone will fill our lives with joy. With the psalmist we cry out, 'Oh, Lord, make no tarrying.'" That commentary from my Bible is so right about betrayals breaking our spirit. Many have had a wife or husband or other close family or friend betray them in such a devastating way, many never get over it. Many are actually broken mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually and never can regain who they were. Yet, there are those who, when totally giving that betrayal over to Jesus -- and resting in His arms with the knowledge He will never leave us nor forsake us -- are able to regain their lives. The key is giving it over to Jesus and trusting in His love. For some, that is very difficult to do, thus, they stay in their broken lives, never to know joy again. There is relief, but their strength has been taken from them and fight has left them. David was at that very point in his prayer for help: “But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God!" (Psalm 70:5a). As we know, David made it through that time in his life and went on to be King David and the forefather of our Jesus. Don’t let these times of betrayal take away the life God has for you. You, only you, with Jesus’ help can fight it. Jesus will do most of the fighting but it will be a fight for you to give it totally to Him.
