THE TEMPTER IS ALWAYS WATCHING
By: Linda Kirby/WGON

The enemy is always watching us. He knows when we become weak in an area of our life. Everyone is predisposed to fall into certain sins (lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life). These aren’t just sexual in nature, but it is whatever we desire that isn't godly. It may be lust for illicit drugs, living outside of God's will, or even just eating too much candy; anything that we should not do for whatever reason. Satan sees our weaknesses and like he did with Jesus, he will wait until we are very weak and then he will tempt us. We can see this in Matthew 4:2, "And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry." Notice that Scripture says “afterward.” Satan knew Jesus was very weak from hunger, so it was an opportune time to tempt Him. That is what he does to us as well. The adversary sees when we are weak and he will take advantage of that weakness. But, like Jesus, we must resist. What did Jesus say to the devil? Scripture continues in verses 3-4: The tempter came to Him and said, "If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." But Jesus answered, "It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” Jesus told us what we should do when we are tempted -- we should run to the Word of God! We should read it so that it will strengthen us to stand firm, causing the tempter to flee (James 4:7). Evil is always watching, so we must submit to God and keep the Word of God close to us for strength and protection.
