THE TONGUE IS A TWO EDGED SWORD
By: Linda Kirby/WGON

God tells us in His Word that the tongue has incredible power. We can use our tongue to bring blessings and life or curses and death. Our mouth can be the most difficult thing to control and leaves us with great regret if we use our words to hurt. The Bible tells us that with the help of the Holy Spirit we can have power and control over our tongue. 1 Peter 3:10: “For, 'Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.'” He tells us this because when we hurt or offend others with our words, it will damage our relationship with them and make us very regretful. This is not a good feeling and is addressed in the above verse: “..and see good days.” How can we have a good day when we are feeling remorse for wounding someone we care about? Col. 4:6 says, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” When we give grace to a person, even if we are angry at the time, we will have no regret or hurtful words. Proverbs 12:18 tells us, "Speaking rashly is like a piercing sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." So, let’s remember, words are a two-edged sword; words hurt others and ourselves, they can curse and wound or they can bless and heal. Let's use that power to touch others in a Godly way.
