THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD, GO I

Winning is certainly wonderful. However, it can become a trap set by Satan. When we succeed at something, and don't give God the glory, we start to feel self-sufficient and prideful. We don't feel the need for God's help and His presence in our lives. With each achievement, we get more puffed up and distant from the Lord. It is He that has bestowed upon us the strength (both mental and physical), the finances, and even the opportunity to realize and enjoy our accomplishments. Have you noticed the pitiful homeless on the streets? "There but for the grace of God, go I." You have no good thing and possess no righteous quality or skill, in and of yourself: it is all from the Father of light (James 1:17). When you are successful, give God the glory; and you will protect yourself from pride. You will find that He gives you even more successes.
