WE BRING TROUBLE ON OURSELVES

Often when trouble hits us, it’s because we brought it on ourselves, "as surely as sparks fly up" from a fire (Job 5:7). Many times we step into that which would've been avoided had we stayed on the path God had set before us. Just like the kid who disobeys his mother, thinking that she will never know -- she always finds out. He comes home with some kind of trouble following him, though mom had warned him out of love -- she was trying to protect him. Our God is the same way: He knows the beginning from the end and knows there’s trouble waiting down certain paths. And just like the hardheaded kid, we think we can go down those paths without consequences. God is not a control freak; He gives us instructions on how to live our lives because He has good reasons. He guides us because He loves us (so much so that He sent His only begotten Son to die for us) and He wants to protect us from unnecessary pain. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11). Let’s remember that and stay on the path God has laid for us.
