Iran is experiencing a near-total collapse of its Internet infrastructure, according to a report on Wednesday night from the NetBlocks website, which monitors global Internet activity.
According to the report, live data received from several countries indicates a large-scale disconnection across the nation, leading to an "almost total collapse" of Internet access.
Current internet activity in recent hours has plummeted to just 3%, effectively rendering the service unusable.
NetBlocks attributes this collapse to a series of partial disruptions that have occurred over the past few days. These disruptions are believed to be linked to IDF operations deep inside Iranian territory, alongside efforts to use electronic means to disrupt communications within the country.
This is one of the rare instances in recent years where a disruption of such magnitude has been observed in a country with an extensive and robust Internet infrastructure.
In addition, IRNA, the Islamic Republic News Agency, the official news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has also gone offline.
Founded in November 1934 as Pars News Agency, it is one of the leading platforms for the Iranian regime to promote its hostile agenda.
Throughout the day on Thursday, the site wouldn't load, and an error message appeared instead.
Goal to limit spread of information
It appears that the goal of this action was to limit the spread of information or enable military and intelligence operations without revealing them in real time.
The crash is currently under investigation by cybersecurity and communications experts from around the world.
