Spain: Police Arrest School Teacher Accused of Raping at Least 12 Minor Students
A math teacher was arrested in Madrid and accused of having raped and sexually abused at least a dozen minors students over the past years, local outlets reported on Tuesday.
According to investigations, the perpetrator allegedly recorded some of the sexual assaults committed against the victims, all between the ages of 12 and 15.
The Spanish newspaper El Mundo identified the accused man by his initials “M.F.G.” in compliance with local regulations. The accused is a 37-year-old math teacher faces allegations of having raped his victims between 2019 and 2024, years during which he worked at the private Don Juan de Alarcón Mercedarian School in the Spanish capital city.
An unnamed nun from the Mercedarian School stated to El Mundo the teacher was fired in 2024 because he “didn’t teach the classes well.”
He now faces a litany of sexual assault, child prostitution, child pornography, child grooming, and sexual harassment of a minor charges — all stemming from an extensive investigation conducted by the Spanish National Police’s Family and Women Attention Units (UFAM).
According to the investigations and testimonies from the victims, the teacher allegedly “sweet-talked” minors by inviting them to play video games on a PlayStation console before ultimately sexually abusing and raping the victims.
Sources close to the investigation detailed to the radio station Onda Cero that it has been confirmed that some of the rapes and sexual assaults occurred inside school promises, while others took place during a summer camp getaway.
The news of the teacher’s arrest and the revelation of the extensive list of charges against him caused a state of commotion and shock among relatives of the school’s students, who are demanding explanations from the institution to know what happened.
“At home, you protect your children, and when you drop them off at school, you assume they’ll be protected there, too. That’s why our world came crashing down when we saw the news,” a father of two children enrolled at the school told El Mundo.
Police officers seized a large number of devices from the teacher’s home, including cell phones, laptops, and storage devices. Per El Mundo, an examination of the devices determined that the perpetrator had recorded some of the sexual assaults — prompting a local judge to order the teacher be placed on provisional prison detention without the possibility of bail.
The arrested teacher was reportedly hired by another institute in 2025. He had already been promoted to a full-time position at his new workplace for the 2026-2027 school year.
While 12 victims have reportedly been confirmed by the police, authorities do not rule out the possibility further victims are yet-to-be identified.
