Teens arrested for shooting at Seattle police, leading chase down I-5 in stolen SUV

Multiple teenagers are in custody after allegedly shooting at a Seattle police officer and leading authorities on a dangerous pursuit down Interstate 5 late Saturday night, according to the Seattle Police Department.

According to Seattle police, the incident began around 9 pm on November 29, when Community Response Group (CRG) officers conducting proactive patrols in North Seattle attempted to stop a Dodge Durango driving erratically and at high speed on Aurora Avenue North. The driver fled, and officers did not pursue the SUV at that time.

Shortly afterward, plainclothes officers located the same vehicle parked in South Seattle. As patrol units moved in, the SUV began driving again, heading south on I-5. Police say that during this second encounter, someone inside the SUV opened fire on a CRG officer driving an unmarked vehicle. The officer was not injured, and no officers returned fire. According to police, a nearby driver witnessed the shooting, and their vehicle was struck, with bullet fragments reportedly landing in the witness’s lap.

CRG and patrol officers then pursued the SUV as it continued south into Tukwila. The chase ended near South 188th Street and Military Road South after officers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver. Police took several suspects into custody at the scene, including three teenage girls, ages 15 to 17, and a 16-year-old boy who attempted to run from the vehicle. Officers recovered a handgun near the abandoned SUV and another firearm from the teen boy, who was also wanted on a felony robbery warrant. Two additional male suspects fled on foot. Multiple agencies, including a K9 team, assisted in the search, but the pair were not located.

Detectives later transported the recovered SUV to the department’s Vehicle Processing Room for further evidence collection. A short time after the arrests, a man arrived at Valley Medical Center in Renton with a gunshot wound to his leg, and Gun Violence Reduction Unit detectives responded to determine whether his injury is connected to the earlier shooting.

The four teens who were arrested were booked into juvenile detention at the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center. Police say they face charges that include two counts of first-degree assault, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and eluding a police vehicle. The investigation remains active as officers continue working to identify and locate the two outstanding suspects.
