Two conductors were injured, and a train bridge was damaged after two trains collided in Boulder, Colorado. Some cars were derailed.

The crash, which occurred late Thursday night, resulted in the two conductors being taken to the hospital with minor injuries. BNSF Director of External Communications Kendall Sloan told Denver 7 that the two had been released from the hospital as of Friday morning.

Boulder police said that the collision took place north of Boulder Community Hospital and some roads in the area would be closed for an extended period, though by Friday morning all roads had been reopened. The train bridge was damaged, and a power line was affected by the crash.

Boulder Police initially believed that some fuel had leaked from the train into the nearby Boulder Creek, but said Friday morning that they believe sand that had spilled from the trail cars had absorbed the fuel from the engines.

"A small amount of fuel spilled from the locomotive but is not impacting the creek. Crews are on site working to clear the incident as quickly and safely as possible. There is no threat to the public," Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) said.
