Inspirational: Don’t Become a Zombified Christian

What it looks like when everyone stops thinking. They all walk, talk, dress, and do the same thing because no one thinks anymore.

I remember when people used to say, “I used to be able to do math, but ever since calculators came along, I can’t add 2 + 2.” Then it became, “I used to spell, but now spell check does it.” Then, “I used to remember phone numbers, but now my phone remembers them for me.”

And now we’ve reached the next step: “I used to think, but now AI, social media, the news, and influencers do it for me.”

Little by little, we’ve handed over our minds to our tools. And when you stop thinking, you don’t just get lazy — you start walking around like a zombie. Eyes open, brain off, just shuffling along repeating whatever you heard last.

But God never called His people to be zombified. He called us to be Bereans.

The Bereans didn’t say, “Well, Paul said it, so that settles it.” No — they searched the Scriptures daily to see if what they heard lined up with God’s Word.

They didn’t outsource their thinking. They didn’t hand over their discernment. They didn’t let anyone — not even an apostle — do their spiritual homework for them.

And in a world where:

• people believe headlines without reading the article or fact checking it

• people share posts without checking the source

• people follow conspiracy theories because they “sound right to them”

• people let technology think for them

…we need the spirit of the Bereans more than ever. We need to double check everything including the news, the studies, the education system, the pastors, just about everything we hear.

God gave you a mind. He expects you to use it. Test everything. Hold fast to what is good. Let go of what is not. And for heaven’s sake — don’t become a spiritual zombie.

Be awake. Be discerning. Be anchored in truth. Be a Berean.

Because in a world that’s stopped thinking, the people who do think shine like lights.

Acts 17:11 — “They received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”
