Some seasons feel like a yard in July — everything scorched, tired, and worn thin. The flowers that used to make you smile are burned up in the 114 degree temps this year. The Rose of Sharon flowers that once made your jaw drop in awe, are wilted. The beauty you counted on looks like it gave up.
But then… there’s that one hydrangea.
Full. White. Heavy with life. Blooming like it doesn’t care what the temperature is.
Everything else is struggling in the heat, but one thing is still thriving.
And the Holy Spirit whispers:
“The beauty isn’t gone. It’s just gathered. I kept one bloom alive so you wouldn’t forget My faithfulness.”
God has always done this.
When life feels burned down to ashes, He steps in with Isaiah 61:3 — “beauty for ashes.” Not after the ashes are swept away. Right in the middle of them.
When the wilderness feels too dry to breathe, He says in Isaiah 43:19 — “I will do a new thing… rivers in the desert.” Not when the season cools off. Right in the heat of it.
When strength feels cut down to the stump, He reminds you in Job 14:7 — “There is hope for a tree… it will sprout again.” Not someday. Not maybe. It will.
That hydrangea is your sermon today.
It’s standing there saying:
“You may feel scorched. You may feel worn out. You may feel ghost‑like and breathless. But God kept something in you blooming.”
Your lungs struggled. Your body felt weak. You walked by sheer memory. But your spirit — the part God waters — is still alive, still rooted, still blooming.
Just like that hydrangea.
And tomorrow, when the sun rises again, Lamentations 3:23 will meet you at the door:
“His mercies are new every morning.”
The beauty isn’t gone. It’s just concentrated. It’s gathered into the one bloom God kept alive so you’d remember:
He restores. He renews. He rebuilds. He makes things bloom again.
Even in the heat. Even in the struggle. Even in you.
