A cheerful heart is good medicine…” — Proverbs 17:22

This morning, the Lord gave me a double blessing:

three hours of pure beauty and two moments that had me laughing so hard I nearly slid out of my chair.

The breeze was warm, the sky was painted in that deep, peaceful blue with puffy white clouds drifting like they had nowhere in particular to be. Birds were singing their little hearts out, and the plants were leafing out like they were waking up from a long nap. It was one of those mornings where creation itself feels like a hymn.

And then the Lord sprinkled in a little comedy.

I should preface this with the fact that I’m nearly blind and can only see few things and then not clearly. I rely on touch and some peripheral vision. So, now you’ll better understand the comedy here.

The Delivery Truck That Wasn’t

I was sitting in my chair facing the road. A partition blocked most of the view, but I could see a sliver of the house across the street. Well, I saw what looked like a white delivery truck parked in front of their house — big black wheel and all.

I sat there wondering what in the world they were getting delivered.

Then my head shifted just a hair, and my peripheral vision caught more of the scene.

It wasn’t a truck.

It was the sun shining on part of their white house…and the “big black wheel” was their round bush. I laughed so hard I had to wipe my eyes.

The Mystery Plant in the Iris Bed

But the Lord wasn’t done with me yet.

Earlier, when Jamie walked me out, I saw a big light‑colored “leaf” blowing in the wind behind me as I sat on the settee. I thought, Now what plant is that? I didn’t plant anything there. Jamie couldn’t see it at all — only a little maple sapling — but no big leaf. Well, when he left for the store, I went back out and sat in the chair. That “leaf” was still blowing, and it was bothering me something fierce. I finally got up, thinking, I won’t be able to see it but I’ll just feel it and figure out what it is. So I reached down……and felt a beige plastic bag stuck in the bed.

I laughed out loud — the kind of laugh that shakes your shoulders and makes you talk to yourself.

The Gift in All of It

Some people get embarrassed or frustrated by moments like that.

But I’ve learned something precious:

If you can’t laugh at yourself, you’re missing half the joy God hands you.

The Lord didn’t just give me a beautiful morning; He gave me a light morning — one where the sky was glorious, the breeze was perfect, and my own mistakes became part of the blessing.

I sat out there for three hours talking to Him, singing to Him, enjoying everything He made. By the time I came in, my back hurt and I was gasping for air ( severe lung disease)— but my spirit was full.

That little sitting area is my prayer closet.

And today, the Lord met me there with beauty…and with laughter.

A Thought to Carry With You

Sometimes God speaks through Scripture.

Sometimes through a whisper in prayer.

And sometimes through a plastic bag pretending to be a plant.

Either way, He knows how to lift a heart.

He fills your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.” — Job 8:21
