The biblical account of Hezekiah in Isaiah 38 and 2 Kings 20 makes you wonder how on earth a fig poultice could heal a man who was dying from a boil, possibly even in sepsis and organ shutdown, yet he used that strange little remedy and survived because the real cure wasn’t the figs at all—it was faith. God uses instruments, but the instrument is never the power; the power is trusting the Great Physician. We get so wrapped up in our illnesses that we forget God said He would take care of us, but we don’t take it to Him. I remember when I was in terrible pain with carpal tunnel, barely able to move a finger, and I heard the Lord say, “Linda, you can pray that away, you know,” and I laughed at myself and said, “like dah Linda!” Then I prayed, and the pain left and never returned, even fourteen years later. Faith and prayer can do wonders when we remember we have a direct line to the One who heals. Hezekiah wasn’t healed because figs have magical properties; he was healed because he trusted God enough to obey something that sounded odd, and that act of faith opened the door for God’s miracle. If we take all our troubles, including our health, to Jesus and trust His timing, His wisdom, and His purpose, things will unfold according to His plan, because timing is everything—even in God’s healing.
